Afar Disaster Risk Management Commission
A regional institution leading disaster risk reduction, early warning, preparedness, emergency response, recovery and resilience building across the Afar Region.
About Afar DRMC
The Afar Disaster Risk Management Commission (DRMC) has evolved through several institutional stages since 1985 E.C., reflecting the changing disaster risks and humanitarian needs of the Afar Region.
It initially focused mainly on relief coordination and rehabilitation, but gradually expanded its mandate to include disaster prevention, preparedness, food security, early warning, emergency response, recovery, and resilience building.
In 2015 E.C., the institution was transformed into the Afar Disaster Risk Management Commission, providing a dedicated institutional framework for coordinating comprehensive disaster risk management across the region.
Today, the Commission plays a central role in risk reduction, early warning and early action, preparedness, emergency response, recovery, resource mobilization, and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities against recurrent drought, floods, conflict, earthquakes, and other hazards.
