Afar DRMC Strengthens Community-Based Early Warning System
The Afar Disaster Risk Management Commission has strengthened its community-based early warning activities to improve the timely collection, verification, and communication of disaster risk information across vulnerable communities in the Afar Region.
The Afar Disaster Risk Management Commission (DRMC) is strengthening its community-based early warning system as part of ongoing efforts to improve disaster preparedness and reduce the impact of hazards across the Afar Region.
The initiative focuses on improving the timely collection and reporting of information related to drought, floods, heavy rainfall, livestock conditions, water shortages, disease outbreaks, and other hazards that may affect communities.
Woreda and zonal disaster risk management offices play an important role in reporting local conditions to the Commission. Information received from affected areas can be reviewed and used to support early warning analysis, preparedness activities, coordination, and decision-making.
The Commission encourages responsible offices to submit accurate and timely information, including affected locations, population estimates, livestock impacts, damaged infrastructure, expected developments, and recommended actions.
Strengthening information flow between communities, Woredas, Zones, and the regional Commission will help decision-makers identify emerging risks earlier and coordinate appropriate preparedness and response measures.
The Afar Disaster Risk Management Commission remains committed to strengthening disaster risk information management and protecting communities through improved preparedness, coordination, and early action.
